The Illnesses of Childhood

Sick childGrowing up, I had been sick quite a few times.  The illnesses and other health issues I remember having as a child (along with a few rounds of antibiotics) were:

  • the croup
  • kidney infections
  • surgery on my bladder
  • chicken pox
  • measles (even though I had been vaccinated)
  • bouts of strep throat
  • swimmers ear
  • colds
  • flu's

I was recently talking with some friends.  They had made the comment that they had never had strep throat.  I couldn't believe it!  I thought that was something everyone experienced at least once in their life.  I experienced the swab culture test in my throat quite a few times.

I remember not being able to go trick-o-treating because I was sick, not being able to try out for the Jr High volleyball team because I had the measles, staying home from school because I had another cold or fever.  However, at the time, I didn’t think much of it.  Every child gets sick quite a bit…so I thought.
