After my college experience in New York, I began working full time in Michigan. I still hadn’t completed my degree, so I continued going to school in the evenings and on weekends. During those years, I felt stressed and did not manage it well. I have a Type A personality and also have an ever so slight perfectionist trait in me. There is nothing wrong with having drive and passion. Those are great characteristics. However, when you allow it to put such a demand on you, it can cause problems.
Without going into all of the details, I enjoyed being constantly busy during that time. Sure, I would get tired during the afternoon around 2-3pm, but I would combat it with caffeine. I would take a break from work and go buy some M&Ms and pop from the vending machine. Once I began feeling like I was having some problems with sugar, I switched to diet pop in the afternoons. That would be better for me:)! Sure, I heard people mention that there were problems with artificial sweeteners, but I was young, in my 20s. That would never affect me. (I'm glad to say that I have now been pop/caffeine free for quite a few years).
Also, during these years, I experienced some major stresses in life. I remember my boss knowing quite a bit of what was going on in my life at the time and wanting me to be aware of the stress and how it was playing in my life. I wish I would have learned how to deal with stress at an early age.
