The marketing companies are catching on.
They are beginning to understand that we want to buy products that don’t have junk in them.
Still GREEN with Reading Labels
BUT, I have to admit if it says, “natural, eco-friendly, pure, organic, green, or 98% naturally derived,” I’m sold. I believe people at their word.
It isn’t until later at home that I’m wondering why it says, “POISON, FLAMMABLE, DANGER, CAUTION, WARNING,” and at the bottom in small print it says…
“If swallowed contact a physician and KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN”.
Companies Have Been Given the GREEN Light to Deceive You by the Government
The government allows companies to keep their chemicals a secret since it’s considered classified. Companies (even including green products) are allowed to hide ingredients under the word “solvents” or “fragrance” or keep them off the list completely. Which has led me to do some research.
Scientists know how to market these products to sell you. They study what you are buying and in some cases they use that information against us.
The Grass is GREENer…
Hearing all this makes you mad, doesn’t it? Once you find out about what a company is doing with their decisions and lack of integrity, you can do something about it.
You can vote with the GREEN in your wallet.
Say no to their shenanigans by buying products that are honest or make your own. You are not being forced to purchase these products so do something about it.
I was excited to hear that in March of 2015, California passed a new law that requires labeling on all cleaning products!
Another option is to make your own cleaning products. Don’t let this overwhelm you. It’s cheaper, it works great, and you’ll know exactly what is in it!
- Baking Soda
- White Vinegar
- Essential Oils
- Glass spray bottle–I take an old Bragg’s apple cider vinegar bottle, pick up a large plastic spray bottle the Dollar Store and use the nozzle from that bottle. It fits like a charm!
My Three Favorite Recipes for Green Cleaning Products
All Purpose Cleaner
- 2 cups water
- 5 drops lavender oil
- 5 drops lemon oil
- 10 drops tea tree oil
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 2 1/2 cups of water
- 10 drops of tea tree oil
- 10 drops of oregano oil
- 10 drops of orange oil
- Baking soda
These three cleaners will help you clean your house with the confidence that comes with knowing what ingredients are in them. You can even leave them under the sink. They are not toxic!
We need to be aware what garbage we bring in our home around our loved ones. This is something you don’t want to ignore. The great thing is we have a fantastic alternative that works better.
