I had the opportunity to watch the movie Genetic Roulette. If you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it.
What Are Genetically Modified Organisms?
As it states in Genetic Roulette,
GMO’s are “the most dangerous thing facing human beings in our generation.”
Many aren’t aware that our food is being genetically modified. Genetically Modified Organisms take genes from one species and force it into the DNA of other species. Corn and soy are the largest GMO crops. The majority of our processed food has corn and/or soy in it. Read food labels. You will find different corn syrups and soy oils. Unless it has an organic label on the item, or has the Non-GMO Project Verified label on it, it more than likely has been genetically modified.
Why Has Disease Increased?
GMO’s create different gene mutations. Since the new gene sequence created is foreign to our body, our immune system attacks it. This can lead to inflammation in our gut – which ultimately leads to disease.
GMO’s also have toxic proteins because they contain built-in pesticides. These toxins can lead to leaky guts. Ultimately leading to disease.
As they say in the movie, plants become weak and sick from all of the herbicides and pesticides that are poured on them. Animals eat the sick plants/grains and become sick. Humans eat the sick animals. You guessed it – humans become sick!
Like the people in the movie, I agree that GMOs are some of the most dangerous things facing our generation. It’s important to get the word out about GMOs. I’m thankful for organizations that are trying to educate consumers. We not only need food labeled, but more importantly, we need GMOs banned.
I strongly recommend staying away from gmo foods, many of which are processed, and eating as many whole foods as possible. When purchasing food, remember to look for the organic label, or the non-GMO Project Verified label and stay away from GMOs!

Do you remember the fish in the tomato campaign?
I did. I still cant believe that some labeling is not mandatory yet.
God save us now.
Sometimes the food sold at the pricier supermarket… you know like the ‘designer’ label ones…can be not organic.
Some times I go direct to the farmer locally, but hey, every now and then, I eat gmo and I dont even know.

I don’t remember that campaign.
I agree. It’s hard to believe that GMOs aren’t labeled.
You’re right – don’t get fooled by the fancy looking labels. Always be sure to look for the round organic seal!

Teresa,
Thanks for taking a stand against GMO’s and most importantly the corporations that produce them. Do you think that people are not educated about their food or does it seem too overwhelming to change?
Thanks,
Matt Sullivan

Good question, Matt! I think it’s a combination of both. I still talk to a lot of people who have never heard of GMOs. Then once someone finally learns about GMOs, it can feel overwhelming since it’s in so much of our food. I suggest that people begin by eliminating processed foods, or at least look for the non GMO Project Verified label. Also, I always recommend buying organic. That way you’re not exposed to GMOs, or pesticides. This ultimately requires a change in diet, which can be overwhelming on its own, but well worth it in the long run!

Glad to hear you’ve heard of GMOs and have done your own research. I’m a big supporter for organic! Organic can be more expensive at times, but I found when I cut out all of the money I used to spend on junk food, that I can use that towards the cost of organic. I’d also rather pay for healthy food instead of doctors and medications:).

I’ve recently researched this myself and I’m of the same opinion as you, although unfortunately I still have to buy most foods which do contain GMO. Organic is just so expensive as well that it makes it almost impossible at times to really buy at time with my household of 6. I just recently found a toothpaste for my daughter that contains no GMO and we love it. If only I could plant my own foods I’d be in heaven. 🙂
