There is a lot of focus on green and healthy living. This is especially the case when it comes to homes, as our families and pets live there. A carpet that is not clean can be bad for one’s health. However, cleaning carpet using toxic chemical products could actually be worse. Homeowners should follow these procedures to ensure that they have an environmentally friendly and healthy home. Taking these tips into consideration when carpet cleaning will help.

Prevention is the Best Solution

It is always better to use prevention mechanisms to minimize dirt and dust in the home. This is because dust can fill a home and cause people to sniffle and sneeze. The best way is by implementing a policy that requires everyone to remove their shoes in the house. You can also use doormats outside and inside the door. The doormats will capture some of the dust and dirt so that it does not make its way into the home. Vacuuming regularly will also reduce the amount of dust and dirt on the carpet.

Use Simple Solutions in the Home

A lot of people have chemical carpet cleaners for spots and stains. Others even have chemical fresheners for their carpets. These solutions can damage the carpet and they can be harmful to the health of everyone in the home. Spot cleaners that have glycol ether or butoxyethanol are toxic and poisonous. It is better to use simple home solutions to clean carpets. They are cheaper and environmentally friendly. Vinegar and soda water are great for cleaning spots. Baking soda is a perfect freshener as it gets rid of bad smells. If the homeowner still wants to buy cleaning solutions from the store, they should always look at the ingredients. They should stay away from products that are labelled danger or poison. They should buy detergents that have citrus solutions as opposed to petrochemicals.

Choose Eco-Friendly Carpet Cleaning Companies

It is important to have the carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year. Environmentally friendly individuals should hire an eco-friendly carpet cleaning company. Such companies use good products and equipment. Make sure that the cleaning products that they will use to clean the carpet have environmentally friendly ingredients.

Do Not Use Too Much Water

Water is required in hot water and steam cleaning processes. However, too much water could do more harm than good. This is because a carpet that has too much water will not dry quickly. If the carpet remains damp for a long time, mold will thrive in it. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the carpet can dry in twelve hours after cleaning it. One can use a dryer, a fan, a dehumidifier or a heating system to speed up the drying of the carpet.

Eco-friendly carpet cleaning benefits the health and the wallet of the homeowner. It also benefits the environment. The safe products that are used will make the air in the home cleaner. A carpet that is professionally cleaned with safe products will also be able to last longer. There are plenty of companies that provide carpet steam cleaning online, and the individual should look for one that will follow all the eco-friendly guidelines.
