When you first read this statement, “How the Internet Saved My Life”, you may think it’s hyperbole. After all, how does the Internet save one’s life? However, I’m here to tell you that if it wasn’t for the Internet, I would have gone down a much different path.
You can love it or hate it, but there’s no question that the Internet has impacted your life. I saw this question asked recently and it got me thinking. The Internet has definitely impacted my life for the better. We live in a day with instant access to tons of information. So much so, that it can be overwhelming at times to keep up with all of it!
When you stop to think about it, I’m sure there are dozens of ways in which the Internet has impacted your life for the better too.
- Providing access to phone numbers and addresses – replacing thick phone books
- Giving instant access to weather
- Providing maps which show you the quickest route to where you’re planning to go
- Giving access to respected industry leaders
- Providing a means to market your products 24/7
- Giving a variety of recipes at your fingertips
- Giving access to coupons for the food needed to make those recipes
- Providing DIY ideas for your house
- Giving a means to purchase items
- And I’m just scratching the surface…
But has it saved your life?
As a Christian, I believe that God works through people and things in our life to teach us and to grow us. I believe that He’s directed me to information on the Internet which has saved my life. Of course, He’s the one who has saved my life, but the Internet was used as a tool.
The Internet Saved My Life Physically
With the plethora of health issues that I’ve encountered over the years, I have turned to the Internet many times. Honestly, I don’t know where I would be today without the information that I have been able to scour through online. The Internet has provided a means for doctors and patients to share. There are tons of online groups for everything you can imagine. People sharing their experiences which might resonate with you. Of course, there have been recommendations which have proven to be bogus, but with enough research, you can usually figure out what is best.
When I started down this health journey around 8 years ago, I began with my local family doctor. He prescribed me a drug, that I later realized if I had continued on it, would have caused me many more problems. In addition, I should have never been put on it in the first place! It was after that experience that I began to research everything a doctor ever told me or recommended that I take. I suggest that you do the same. It never hurts to have a second opinion. Doctors have a ton on their plates with all of the patients that they see. They might not always have the time to research and learn the most up-to-date studies. (Actually, if your doctor doesn’t take the time to learn the most up-to-date things, I would recommend finding another doctor).
During the first few years of my health journey, one of the most frustrating things was watching my body deteriorate without knowing what was wrong with me. Visiting and stumping doctor after doctor with no answer. This again forced me to do my own research.
Ultimately, I learned a ton, not only about my health problems but our health in general. In addition, I found a doctor who was many states away, but who ultimately got me on the right track. I actually found him through a search on YouTube!
My health journey has also introduced me to new ways of eating, so back to the Internet I went to learn about food and to find Real Food bloggers and recipes. The more I learned about our food in America, the more I couldn’t believe was happening. I learned about GMOs, pesticides, added hormones and antibiotics, and animals who were confined and fed things that they shouldn’t be eating. I learned about organic standards and the differences between food labels, and on and on.
The Internet Has Positively Impacted My Financial Life
Through the doctor (who got me on the right track), I was introduced to an online business, Beyond Organic, which provided more opportunities. I learned a ton through Beyond Organic.
The Internet makes it possible for my husband and me to own our own businesses. It provides me a means to try to help others by providing information on this blog and through social media.
I have also met some great people through the Internet. Ones who have positively impacted my life.
So, when I pause and reflect on the statement “How the Internet Has Saved My Life”, I have to say I don’t know where I would be without it. I am grateful for it and the opportunity it has provided me – giving me a second chance at life. In turn, I hope that Living Natural Today gives you a starting point for further research as I share with you things that I have learned along the way. Information is powerful!
