A few years ago, I found out that I was toxic with mercury. Mercury poisoning was one of the things that filled up my toxic bucket and contributed to my Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. A couple of years ago I went through the process of having 9 mercury fillings removed and replaced. Before they were replaced, my doctor put me on a supplement protocol to strengthen my liver and kidneys as they are the main players in the detox process. Then after my amalgam tooth fillings were all replaced, I went on another protocol to remove all of the mercury as mercury gets into your cells and much of it rises to your brain – just like mercury rises in a thermometer.
Mercury Poisoning Detox Protocol
I was on the mercury toxicity detox journey for 1 1/2 years. It was a long road, but definitely worth it. The protocol my doctor put me on combined DMSA and ALA (alpha lipoic acid) along with some other supplements. The protocol was developed by Dr. Andy Cutler.
[As a side note, when I researched this protocol, I noticed that it was also used for children with developmental disorders and health challenges (such as Autism) due to heavy metal toxicity. It is worth researching heavy metal toxicity and consulting a doctor if you have a child who experiences these issues. Keep in mind that chelation can be dangerous if it’s not done properly, so always be sure to consult a professional who is familiar with this].
The DMSA protocol can be daunting as you have to take it on a very set schedule of so many hours on and off for so many days at a time. It is even done through the night. However, as I previously mentioned, it is worth it in the end! By removing the mercury, you will notice changes in your body since your immune system is no longer impaired by it.
Mercury Test from Quicksilver Scientific
After some time on the DMSA protocol, I took a mercury poisoning test from Quicksilver Scientific to see where I stood with the mercury in my body. The test sampled my hair, blood, and urine. Quicksilver Scientific “utilizes mercury speciation analysis, a patented advanced technology that separates methyl mercury (MeHg) from inorganic mercury (HgII) and measures each directly.” My test results showed that the mercury was gone! Actually, my doctor was surprised to see levels so low. The DMSA protocol did its job.

If you are thinking of having your mercury amalgam fillings removed, be sure to have them removed properly and then chelate the mercury out properly. This is so important as you could do damage to your kidneys and liver if done improperly.
I’m so grateful to be rid of the mercury and thankful to be off of the DMSA protocol. I can sleep through the night again!
