If you experience water damage in your home or place of work, contacting a water damage restoration company that is reputable and qualified is very important due to mold growth that can occur.

Check out our list of the different types of tools that water damage restoration companies must have. This list will give you a basic idea about a company’s professionalism and expertise.

Must-Have Tools for Water Damage Restoration Companies

The following are the different types of tools that water damage restoration companies must have.

Moisture Meters

Two types of moisture meters are used in an average restoration process – penetrating and non-penetrating moisture meters.

Penetrating Moisture Meters

The penetrating moisture meter is used to measure the electrical resistance of an object, generally wood. Two-pin electrodes are driven into the wood fibers to measure the level of conductivity of electricity.

Penetrating meters provide accurate answers, especially the ones with data logging capabilities and are particularly useful to determine the percentage of trapped moisture deep within the walls.

Non-Penetrating Moisture Meters

The non-penetrating moisture meter is non-invasive, which relies on the dielectric properties of the wood. These meters do not cause any damage to the building.

Two rubber flat pads are pressed against the surface of the wood. The electrode transmits and receives a reading. The pads create a low-frequency electrical wave between the two pads to read the electrical properties of a given substance.

Non-penetrating meters are a preferred gadget to compare a water-clogged area to a dry or non-affected area.

Thermographic Camera

Also known as Thermal Imaging Camera or Infrared Camera, the Thermographic camera forms images using infrared waves or radiation. It is similar to a common photography camera that forms images using light rays.

The infrared camera, however, operates in infrared wavelengths as long as 12, 000 nm. You will find these types of infrared sensors in night vision cameras for capturing the presence of objects using wavelengths instead of light.

Thermo Hygrometers

It is very important to make sure that the environment where the water damage has occurred is perfect for drying the surfaces.

Thermo Hydrometers are used to measure the environmental dryness of both affected and non-affected inside and outside conditions. You can measure temperature, relative humidity, as well as calculate the dew point along with Grains Per Pound with this tool. If you wish to know the effectiveness of your dehumidifier, you must leverage the functions of this tool.

Hydro Sensors

Few corners of the water damaged areas are generally unreachable. But, if you have to find out to extend the water has migrated from the source, a hydro sensor can do the work just for you.

They come with an invasive technology that lets out an audible signal letting you know where the water has gone farther, in the carpet or carpet padding or in the far corner of the room.

Slide Hammers

A slide hammer is used along with a penetrating meter to determine the level of moisture penetration into the wood sub-flooring. They come with Teflon-coated pins that can be driven into sub-flooring to obtain accurate readings.

This tool is excellent in finding out how deep the water has penetrated into the floor, sill plates, or hardwood.

Hope this article gives you a head start in choosing the right water damage restoration company. By knowing what equipment the water restoration company should have, it can help you narrow down your options.
