Are you being zapped by EMFs? That’s the question author Ann Louise Gittleman asks us to ponder in her book titled ‘Zapped: Why Your Cell Phone Shouldn’t Be Your Alarm Clock and 1,268 Ways to Outsmart the Hazards of Electronic Pollution‘.
I read her book in preparation for an interview I did with the team at SafeSleeve. They offer a sleeve type of case which blocks Extremely Low Frequency (ELF), Radio Frequency (RF, WiFi) and thermal (heat) radiation.
EMFs have been an area that I have had an interest in because I personally encounter sensitivities to them. It’s hard for me to sit in front of my computer some days (which isn’t good since I have this blog:)).
What Are EMFs?
EMF stands for Electromagnetic Fields. EMFs are a type of radiation, that take the form of waves. There are different types of frequencies, such as Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) and Radio Frequency (RF). “The term EMF is used to refer to all the electromagnetic frequencies that are slower than visible light.”
Also referred to as electropollution, it is odorless, colorless and invisible. Ann likens it to a “sweet poison”. It makes our life sweeter by giving us more conveniences, however, those conveniences come with unforeseen side effects – similar to other conveniences with consequences I outlined in this infographic. The “sweet poison” that Ann refers to is all around us. She says, “by some estimates, we’re exposed daily to as much as one hundred million times more electromagnetic radiation than our grandparents were. It flows around us, in us, and interferes with the body’s fundamental electric forces of life, including the communication between our cells that tells them how to grow, develop, divide and even when to die.” (pg 20) The electropollution is also continually disturbing our sympathetic nervous system which can cause a host of health problems.
Our bodies are made up of billions of frequencies. “These frequencies are expressed in the form of cells, organs, and tissues, which are constantly vibrating and communicating with each other – and the external environment.” (pg 4) “Unfortunately, we have been engulfed in a growing maze of accumulating harmful frequencies over the past hundred years.” (pg 7)
Just think of all of the electrical appliances and gadgets we have today. In her book, Ann walks us through each room of our house and lists what might emit EMFs. She comes up with almost 200 items!
Are You Allergic to the Digital World?
Do you experience unexplainable symptoms? It could be due to too much electropollution. “The proliferation of technology… may have finally created a toxic load that is too great for some bodies to handle, just as the rapid rise of toxic chemicals such as pesticides, plastics, and heavy metals in the environment has overwhelmed the ability of some bodies to neutralize them.” (pg 23)
When you encounter a large electromagnetic field, it may interfere with the messages your cells send and receive, overwhelming your cells. Ann goes more in depth as to how cellular transmissions can get interrupted and how it affects our cell membrane and even our DNA leading to disease.
In addition to explaining the physical and scientific ramifications of EMF’s, this book also shows how you can live with technology and prevent its negative side effects by zap-proofing your home, work, and environment.
I recommend the EMF Solution!
This video masterclass will turn your home into a healthier environment by walking you step-by-step through all the EMF landmines in your life and fix them.
Some Suggestions to Zap-proof Your Life
Ann lists many suggestions when it comes to zap-proofing your life. Here are a few:
- Unplug electronics
- Move your furniture (especially bed or couch) away from the wall on the other side of your refrigerator
- Use a gas stove instead of an electric one
- Replace your hair dryer with one which emits a lower amount of EMFs
- Keep your furniture away from the wires in your walls
- Switch back to a wired network
- Measure EMFs in your home with a Gauss meter
- If you have to use a cell phone, use it on speaker and not when driving in a car
In addition to the changes you can make in your environment, there are things you can do to physically make your body stronger so it can combat the added stressor of electropollution. Ann gives a list of 21 zap-proof superfoods and recipes in addition to recommended minerals and supplements.
I totally agree with Ann that our terrain is everything – a healthy internal environment is your best shield against disease. “The right nutrients will build a fortress of health against the harmful consequences of constant EMF exposure. You can dramatically fortify your well being by eating zap-proof foods and seasonings that tamp down inflammation and contain powerful antioxidants that stop oxidative stress in its tracks.” (pg 165)
This book provided many resources when it comes to EMF’s. I highly recommend the book for more information about EMFs and how to limit your exposure.
